Mr. Russell Stephen Baum, 71, of Byrdstown, a native of Callicoon, N.Y., passed away at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at The Medical Center of Kentucky in Bowling Green, Ky., from complications of COVID-19.

Russell was born Nov. 6, 1949 in Callicoon to the late Edward John and Florence Marjorie Simonson Baum. He had a successful career in scrap metal and heavy equipment sales. If he was not working he enjoyed attending auctions of all types, especially truck auctions. With his successful career, he was also proud of his son Jesse who has had great success in his own business.

Surviving family members include his three children James and Jesse Baum of Pennsylvania, Tara Baum of McMinnville, siblings Janet Klein of Sparta, Edward Baum of Florida, Terry Baum of Quebeck, Cheryl Baum of New York, and companion Michelle Williams.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta. The family will receive friends Sunday from noon until service time at Hunter Funeral Home. Ken Wallace will officiate.  In honor of Russell’s wishes, he will be cremated following his funeral and his ashes taken to a special location in New York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the White County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 6231, Sparta, TN 38583.
