Ruby Emerald Wolford was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 14, 1932 and died in McMinnville on Dec. 27. She was 86 years old.
She was the second of three children. Ruby was the daughter of Robert E. Wolford and Marjorie Lillian Bolden Wolford Thacker. Ruby was retired from Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis where she was the administrative secretary for the Nursing Dept. She was a member of East End Drive Church of Christ. Ruby was a member of NAACP. Ruby loved to sew, she enjoyed bowling and dancing. She loved working crossword puzzles and reading.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her older brother, Robert O’Neal Wolford and stepfather, Ramey Thacker.
Ruby is survived by her son Wayne (Mary) Wolford Sr., of McMinnville, two grandsons, Wayne Jr. and Matthew Wolford of St. Louis, Mo.; granddaughter Erin Wolford of Memphis; great-granddaughter, Brittany Wolford of Memphis; one brother John L. Polsen (Helen) Wolford of St. Louis, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon at High’s Funeral Home. Her life celebration service will be at noon on Thursday with burial following at Bolden Green Cemetery. Bishop Michael Harris will be officiating.
