Pomeroy, Ohio resident Robert “Bob” Smiddie, 80, died June 20 after a long battle with cancer.A McMinnville native, he was the son of the late Clifford and Amanda Woodlee Smiddie. He was admired for his folk pottery adorned with flowers and his plays that combined humor with strong social justice messages.He is survived by his wife, Beth Amoriya of Pomeroy; son, Kyle Smiddie of Newark, N.J.; daughters, Laura James and her husband Alan; daughter Nora of Chicago, Ill., Kellie Smiddie and her husband, Kevin Corp and children James, Annie and Michelle of Cleveland, Ohio, Angel Newberry and her husband, Ray and daughter, Reilly of Canal Winchester, Ohio; and sister, Frances Smiddie Moore of Kingston.Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Armstrong Church of Christ with burial to follow at Armstrong Cemetery.
