Richard Lee Soehner, PhD, 82, a Rock Island resident and Louisville, Ky., native, died March 2 at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was a retired virologist with M.D. Anderson Hospital and Miles Laboratories, a United States Army veteran during the Korean War, a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, and son of the late Howard Clayton and Lauretta Louise Harvey Soehner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Harvey Clayton Soehner.
Mr. Soehner was married Sept. 29, 1960 to Jane Ellis Soehner, who survives. He is also survived by children, Richard Louis Soehner and wife Chrisanna of Ocala, Fla., and Lauretta Soehner McConnell and husband Kenneth of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, Jordan and Madison Soehner and Jack and Spencer McConnell; sister-in-law, Blanche Norsworthy and husband Robert Norsworthy Jr. of Florence, Ms.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Matthews Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice in Dick’s memory.
