Ralph Lewis Hamby, 89, a McMinnville resident and Winston, Ga., native died Sept. 3 in Webb House of McMinnville following a brief illness.He was a retired mechanic with American Airlines, veteran of the United States Army Air Corps in World War II, member of the Baptist Church and son of the late Reese Frank Hamby and the late Cathleene Winkle Hamby. Mr. Hamby was married July 25, 1952 to Mildred Imogene Bost Hamby, who preceded him in death. In addition to his father and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers Howard Mitchell Hamby and Louie Hamby; sister Helen Hamby Scott; stepmother Mary Drake Hamby; brothers-in-law Willie, Clarence, Julius, John Roy and Marshall Lee Bost; and sisters-in-law Lila Mae Couch, Myrtle Bost and Evelyn McCormick.Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Macie and Arnold Graves of Gainesville, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Verna Aline West of McMinnville and Diane Hamby of Modesta, Calif.; and brother-in-law, Joe Scott of Georgia.Funeral service was held Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Doug Bost officiating.
