Rock Island resident and Florence, Ala., native Preston Edwin Hillis, 88, died Nov. 4 at his home after a short illness.A retired employee of TVA where he was an industrial steamfitter and a member of Local Union 102, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.The son of the late James H. and Sarah Mae Hennessee Hillis, he was preceded in death by son, Peter Preston Hillis; brothers, Asey, James and L.C. Hillis; and sister, Barbara Huntington.He is survived by his wife, Jenny Whitworth Hillis of Rock Island; son and daughter-in-law, Madison and Jill Hillis of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters and son-in-law, Sisi Wilson Kinnard of Lebanon, Rebecca Kay Hillis Inman of Kingston, Patsy and Jimmy Campbell of Lafollette; grandchildren, Jennifer Russell, Sarah Cloud Wilson, Brandy Ward, Aaron Campbell, Cindy Harkrider and James Vickery; great-grandchildren, Lexi Russell, Evan, A.J., Peyton and Jody Harkrider; sister-in-law, Virginia Hillis; nieces and nephews, Peggy Bailey, Frances Moore, Gale Hillis, Jack, Jimmy Ray, Preston Earl, James Michael and Terry Lee Hillis. They were foster parents for 14 years.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Titus Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Crain Hill Cemetery.
