McMinnville resident and Warren County native Opal Eileen Tobitt, 87, was born May 29, 1923 and died May 2 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville following a short illness.
A retired employee of Rockford Textile Company, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Carrie Williamson Duggin. She was married to William Albert Tobitt, who preceded her in death April 6, 1999. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Treva Tobitt; brother, Richard Duggin; and daughter-in-law, Dene Tobitt.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Tobitt, R.C. and Nina Tobitt, and Malcolm and Barbara Ann Tobitt, all of McMinnville, and Hubert and Janet Tobitt of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggie Shelton of Murfreesboro, Patricia Ann and Jay Brymer of Sparta, and Nancy and Larry Gann of Manchester; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Minnie Evelyn Tobitt of McMinnville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at noon Thursday in High’s Chapel with David Gann officiating. Burial will follow at Whitlock Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until 9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at High’s.
High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
