Nyoka Gunter, 68

McMinnville resident and Meigs County native Nyoka Gunter, 68, was born Dec. 11, 1946 and died Jan. 1 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville following a sudden illness.A retired employee of Carrier Corporation and member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Dick Austin and Viola Mae Miles Gunter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Gunter and Floyd “Tommy” Gunter; infant sister, Earlene Gunter and brother-in-law, Bill Graham.She is survived by a daughter, Shelia June Jones of McMinnville; two granddaughters, Desi (Frank) Jefferson and Josie Weddington, both of McMinnville; great-grandchildren, Andrea, Drake and Carter Jefferson, all of McMinnville; brother, Lee Roy (Lou) Gunter of McMinnville; sisters, Carlin (Barry) Pence of Florida, Gladys Graham and Bonnie (Ernie) Cantrell, both of McMinnville; sisters-in-law, Bertha Gunter and Faye Gunter, both of McMinnville, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in High’s Chapel with Johnny Newby officiating.
