McMinnville resident and New Castle, Pa., native Norman William Marttala, 83, was born April 18, 1933 and died Nov. 7 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following an extended illness. A retired metallurgical engineer with the U.S. Air Force, a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, he was the son of the late Henry and Elina Amanda Halttunen Marttala. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
