Rock Island resident and White County native Mayme Lee Hillis, 82, was born Dec. 5, 1938 and died July 17 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.
A retired manager from VFW Post 5064 and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late James M. and Lola Mae Blevins Clark. She was married on March 9, 1976 to Marion Parker Hillis, who preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 2007. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son Roy Lee Mitchell Jr.
Mrs. Hillis is survived by son Mark (Trisha) Mitchell of Sparta, daughter Amy Mitchell McCluskey of Rock Island, two daughters Karla Hillis of Bone Cave, and Phaedra Lancaster of Manchester, two sons Steve Hillis of Rock Island, and Earl (Christy) Hillis of Winchester, son James “Little Man” Anderson of Viola, 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many extended family members also survive.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at High’s Chapel with Jeff Page officiating. Burial will follow at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Thursday. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
