Martha Claudene Baker, 70, of Spencer died Wednesday, May 27, at Highlands Medical Center in Sparta. She was born Sept. 6, 1944 in Spencer, the daughter of the late Vernie and Lillian (Baker) Hayes. Mrs. Baker was a member of First Baptist Church of Spencer for 60 years.Surviving family members include her husband, Charles R. Baker of Spencer; daughter, Penny Baker of Spencer; sister, Carolyn Bayless of Fall Creek Falls; granddaughter, Haley Townsend and husband Drew of Fortson, Ga.; two grandsons, Calaeb Campbell of Cookeville and Drew Campbell of Spencer; great grandchildren, Hayes Townsend, Hallie Kate Townsend and soon to arrive, Deacon Townsend; aunt Lois Carlton of Murfreesboro; uncle Thomas Baker and wife Polly of Virginia Beach, Va.; nieces Edwina Wilson, Leslie Pack and Julie Smithhissler; nephews, Trence Baker, Doug Baker, Nathan Bayless, Cason Hayes and Stephen Hayes.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Hayes and Rickey Hayes.Funeral services for Mrs. Baker will be held in the chapel of Spencer Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday with Nathan Haynes officiating.
