Rock Island resident and Warren County native, Lowell Lee “Bub” Harper, 89, was born May 29, 1931 and passed away December 6, 2020 at Ascension St. Thomas Hospital Midtown in Nashville following a sudden illness.    

A self-employed nurseryman, avid gardener, fisherman and hunter, and a member of the Baptist church, he was the son of the late George Harrison and Lorene Holt Harper. He was married to Hassie Mirilda Fults on July 10, 1954, who preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 2012. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sister Katherine York, brother Clifton Harper, sisters-in-law Dolly Harper and Louise Harper, and brother-in-law Arlin King.   

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sarah Harper of Rock Island, daughter and son-in-law Sissy and Charlie Pursley of Rock Island, grandchildren and spouses, T.J. and Jennifer Harper of Memphis, Dawn and Michael Dendy of Buford, Ga., Chris and Kelly Slaughter of McMinnville, Zack Slaughter of Los Angeles, Calif., Laura and John Herman of McMinnville, and Holly Walker and Andrew DeVries of McMinnville, great-grandchildren, Sydney Harper, Abbey Harper, Ethan Dendy, Harper Dendy, Walker Slaughter, Braden Herman, Raylan Herman, and Emma Walker, brothers Jim Harper and Earl Harper, both of McMinnville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. 

Funeral service will Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. at High’s Chapel with Jason Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of service at High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
