Linda Coleman White, 76, of Lake Lure, N.C. died Sunday, Nov. 27 after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 27, 1940 in McKinney, Texas, daughter of the late Glenn and Janelle Coleman.
She retired from Lexington School District One, Lexington, S.C. in 2001. She was an active member of The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Lake Lure Art Club. She also volunteered at Mountain Branch Library and Ruth Hospice House. Linda loved life, her family, friends and community. She enjoyed traveling, taking art classes, and reading. She was a patient listener, gentle counselor and willing helper. Linda courageously battled an aggressive cancer over several years.
Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Aaron White, of Lake Lure and formerly of McMinnville; sons Gregory White (Susan) of Gilbert, S.C., and Gavin White (Lindsay) of Simpsonville, S.C., and three grandchildren; Andrew Duke of Gilbert, Coleman and Reagan White of Simpsonville and her brother, Glenn Coleman Jr. (Helen) of McKinney, Texas; and sister-in-law, Lynne Jacobs (Charles) of McMinnville.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9 at The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Highway 64, Bat Cave, N.C., 28710. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, N.C. 28801 or The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, P.O. Box 130, Bat Cave, N.C. 28710.
