Leon Ward, 84, a Rockvale resident and Warren County native, died Feb. 17 at Woodbury Health Center following an extended illness.
He was a self-employed dairy farmer, member of the Baptist Church and son of the late Mattie Edgar and Winnie Addline Jones Ward. He was married Feb. 4, 1954 to Willie Louise Bettis Ward, who preceded him in death Nov. 25, 2010.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Lydia Foster, Edith Taylor, Pauline Bond and brothers, Virgil, Margel and Clinton Ward.
Mr. Ward is survived by six children, Deborah Baker of Manchester, Leon R. Ward Jr. of West Covina, Calif., Malcomb Ivan (Carolyn) Bettis of Cleveland, Terry L. Ward of Smyrna, Sherry Lynn Jenkins of Rockvale and Edgar DeLon (Bea) Ward of Woodbury; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Billy) Basham of McMinnville and Norma Jean Davenport of Woodbury and one brother, W.L. (Bea) Ward of Westmoreland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in High’s Chapel with Tommy Womack and Jonathan Womack to officiate. Interment will follow at Providence Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
