Smithville resident and New Castle, Ind., native Larry D. Popplewell, 69, died unexpectedly Aug. 15 at his home.A production worker with General Motors and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Homer B. and Allene South Popplewell.He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy Bratcher Popplewell; sons, Robert L. Popplewell of Maynardville and Larry B.J. Popplewell of Murfreesboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and John Robertson of Kansas City, Mo., Kathy Popplewell and Chuck Strong of Robinson, Ind., Glenda and Gary Carter of Smithville; 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Corine Popplewell of Anderson; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ike Grundwald of Box Elder, S.D.; sister-at-heart, Rose Ann Spitz of Pendleton, Ind., and special friends, George and Diana King of Walling.Graveside services will be held at 6 a.m. Friday at Centertown Cemetery with Kenneth Bratcher and Barry Boggs officiating.
