Katy Rhea Tomlin, 84, of Smithville died Wednesday, June 15, at DeKalb Community Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a member of Gath Missionary Baptist and a homemaker. She was born in Smithville on Dec. 19,1926, the daughter of the late Hobart J. and Pauline (Cantrell) Stewart.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne McGee Tomlin; one son, Terry Wayne Tomlin; one daughter, Kathy Paulette Tomlin Ripley; one sister, Betty Ruth Stewart Maxwell.
She is survived by three daughters, Susan Boren of Smithville, Ronda Rayl of Smithville, Melissa and husband Shawn Perkins of McMinnville; two sisters, Mattie Sue Vaughn of Smithville, Florence Keeton of McMinnville; three brothers, George Stewart, Paul Stewart, and Sid Stewart, all of McMinnville; seven grandchildren, Tina Ripley, Terry Tomlin II, Mary Kate Rayl, Candace Marie Hayes, Kari Jean Rayl, Abraham Stewart Perkins and Ezekiel Lennon Perkins; four great-grandchildren, Allissa Tomlin, Marshall Gill, Jeffery Gill and Hayden Gill.
Funeral service will be held at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. today with Ray Gilder officiating. Interment will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens in Smithville. Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until time of service today. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and Dibrell Memorial Museum.
