John Roy “J.R.” Weddington, 78, of McMinnnville went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 21, at the home of his son and daughter in-law John and Mary Weddington in Pelham following a nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer.Born Monday, March 18, 1940 in McMinnville to parents Luther Virgil “Blue” and Maggie Lee Hillis Weddington who preceded him in death along with his grandparents who raised him, Roy and Daisy Hunt Weddington.He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. He proudly served his country for three years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a journeyman tool and die maker and worked in many shops in Warren County and surrounding counties.He is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children Billie Marie Jones, sons John Roy Jr. and wife Mary of Pelham, Paul Wesley and wife Jennifer of McMinnville, grandchildren Desi (Frank) Jefferson, Josie (Josh) Tuttle, Damaris (Dru) Kaegi, Kenzie Weddington, and JonPaul Weddington, great-grandchildren Andrea, Drake, Carter, and Savannah Jefferson and Will Tuttle, step-grandchildren Brittany Woodard and Cassie Spitzer, step-great-grandchildren Greyson and Paisley Woodard, sister Joanne (Jim) Smoot of McMinnville and special friend Teddy Myers of Morrison.Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home, 415 North Chancery Street.
