Joe Houston Green, 89, of Smithville (Green Hill community) died Tuesday, June 25 at Alvin C. York VA Hospital in Murfreesboro.
He was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Warren County and was a retired heavy equipment operator with both the county and state. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army and is a former POW, and was a member of Green Hill Church of Christ. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his parents, Lusheon C. and Etta Alice Boren Green; his sisters, Dovie Green Sparkman, Ophia Green Flanders, Dollie Green Greene, Valata Green Fletcher, Marie Green, and Hattie Green Argo, and his brothers Everette Green and Elbert Green.
Survivors include his wife Marion Kathryn Green; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Darrell Russell and sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Allan and Teresa Green and Larry and Amy Green; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is 1 p.m. Friday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Teddy Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at Webb Cemetery. Military grave rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. The Green family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.mcminnvillefuneralhome.com.
