Mrs. Jeweline Hillis McGowan, 87, of Rock Island died Sunday, June 28, at NHC Health Care in McMinnville. 

She was born in Warren County on May 1, 1933, was retired as a certified nurse’s aide with Raintree Manor Nursing Center, a member of Campaign Church of God of Prophecy, and was preceded in death by mother Iris Bain Adams, father Ivory Hillis Sr., husband Ernest McGowan, daughters Brenda Barnwell and Diane Potter, sisters Lucille Wagner and Anna Mae Sharpe, and granddaughters Kimberly Bello-Mayes and Becky Barnwell.

Survivors include grandchildren Paul Barnwell, Steve Potter, Ernest Dodd, and Brenda Brannam, great-grandchildren Carmen Bello, Ashley Paison, Amber Smith-Defoor, Alexis Walls, Tosha Tanner, Kenneth Dodd, Dakota Bennett, Ernest Dodd Jr., Trey Cope, and Heather Brannam, and brothers Ivey Hillis Jr. and James H. (Dickey) Hillis. Many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends also survive.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Friendship Cemetery. Pastor Rick Lyles will officiate. There will be no visitation at the funeral home as family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.mcminnvillefuneralhome.com.
