Jerry Wayne Evans Popcorn Man, 74

McMinnville resident and DeKalb County native Jerry Wayne Evans “Popcorn Man,” 74, died Jan. 4 at Alive Hospice at St. Thomas in Nashville after a brief illness.A welder with Carrier for 28 years and a member of Christ United Methodist Church, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force and in the Air Guard for 20 years.The son of the late Gentry and Louise Burton Evans, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Peterson.He is survived by his wife of 51 years Donna Davenport Evans; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Linda Evans of Centertown; granddaughter, Sarah Evans of Centertown; aunts, Mrs. Johnnie Hobson of Ardmore, Mrs. Billie Cook, Mrs. Jo Evans, Mrs. Edith Evans and Mrs. Frankie Evans, all of Smithville; sister-in-law, Patsy Davenport Askew; niece, Pam Davenport; great-nephew, Davis L. Cantrell; and numerous cousins.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at High’s Chapel with Lorin Pedigo officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory with military graveside rites administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, and 8 a.m. until time of service Monday at High’s.High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Southern Standard (McMinnville, Tenn.)
