Jerry Marlin Cathey Sr., 80, a McMinnville resident and Coffee County native, was born Feb. 14, 1938 and died June 22 at NHC Healthcare of McMinnville following a brief illness.He was a retired employee of J&W Amusement, retired grounds keeper for McMinnville Country Club and WillowBrook Golf Club, member of East End Church of Christ, and son of the late Samuel Wade Cathey Sr. and Mattie Lou Harrell Cathey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Barbara Jean Cathey and Dorothy Cathey; brothers J.N., Samuel Jr., Leon, Billy and Richard Cathey; and nephews Preston and Jeff Cathey.Mr. Cathey is survived by his wife, Dortha Cathey of McMinnville; sons Jerry Cathey Jr. and wife Sonya of Waverly and Joey Cathey and wife Angela of McMinnville; grandsons and spouses, Cody and Siera Cathey of McEwen, Kyle and Monica Cathey of Murfreesboro, and Nickolas Cathey of McMinnville; brother Don Cathey and wife Martha of McMinnville; sisters-in-law Wilma Cathey and Emma Cathey, both of McMinnville, Margaret Cathey of Morrison, Elsie Newby of McMinnville, Reba Nabors and Johnnie Sue Stiles, both of Kingsport, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at High’s Chapel with Garland Robinson to officiate. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
