James Thomas “Tommy” Cox Sr., 74, a McMinnville resident and Coffee County native, was born March 9, 1943 and died Oct. 19 at his residence following an extended illness.He was a retired truck driver with Union Boiler Construction, member of Locust Street Church of God and son of the late William Nathan and Georgia Pearl Stewart Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Morris and Jimmy Cox.Mr. Cox was married May 12, 1967 to Joanna Cox, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Thomas Cox Jr. of Manchester, and Joseph Michael Cox of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Stephanie Blazer, Heather Cox, Faith Cox and Shaun Cox, all of Manchester; one great-grandchild, Jessalynn Blazer of Manchester; brother Donnie Cox; sister Martha Simmons of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, in High’s Chapel with Jeff Page and Paul Starkey to officiate.
