McMinnville resident and White County native James “Jim” Cooper Shockley, 77, was born Sept. 26, 1938 and died Feb. 17 at VA TN Valley Healthcare System in Nashville following an extended illness. The retired owner of Shockley Carpet and a United States Navy veteran, he was the son of the late Roy Cooper and Ruby Lee Martin Shockley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Jeffrey Shockley; and three sisters, Clata Worley, Wanda Miller and Vivian Shockley.He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Larry Surles of West Chester, Ohio, Josie and Jim Looney of Apex, N.C., and Jamie and Mike King of Morrison; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; special friend, Jackie Thomas of McMinnville; and five sisters, Ruby (Melvin) Howard of Lancing, Lillian Hobbs of Readyville, Glinda Francisco of Tullahoma, Linda Haston of Estill Springs and Mary Haley (Harley Slatton) of McMinnville.
