James Garey Vanatta, 62, a resident of Cannon County, born in DeKalb County, but grew up in Warren County, died Dec. 31 at his home, following an eight-month battle with cancer.He was a graduate of Warren County High School’s class of 1972 and a veteran of the United States Army. Garey was a self-employed contractor, who owned various businesses during his life. He is survived by his son, Jared Vanatta of McMinnville; daughter, Reagan of McMinnville, his mother, Ruth Vanatta of McMinnville, brother, Dwayne Thomas Vanatta of Lubbock, Texas, sister, Tammy Beavers and husband Frankie of Manchester, nieces, Beth Vanatta of Murfreesboro and her daughter a great-niece Lily-Ann Martenson, Caitlin Beavers of Manchester and nephew, Coltin Beavers of Manchester, additional family, Phyllis Vanatta, Deborah Vanatta, Jarrell Texas, Wanetta Scott and her family of Murfreesboro, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of wonderful friends.He was preceded in death by his dad, James Thomas Vanatta and stepmother, Doris Vanatta, brother, Randall Vanatta, his niece and nephew, Jacob Vanatta and Nicole Vanatta.By Garey’s request, was cremated and the other arrangements are incomplete at this time.
