Mr. James Edmon Sandlin, 84, a McMinnville resident and Smithville native, was born April 6, 1937, and died Feb. 6 at the Webb House in Smithville.

He was a farmer, a Manufacturing Engineer at A.O. Smith, served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps, was a member of McMinnville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and attended Christ United Methodist Church. J.E. was an avid Tennessee Volunteers sports fan. 

Mr. Sandlin was preceded in death by parents Johnny Clarence and Nancy Elizabeth Taylor Sandlin, his wife JoAnn Webb Sandlin, and sister Virginia Ruth Sandlin.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law Teresa (Manuel) McCurry of McMinnville and Melanie Matheney of Baxter, four grandchildren Ryan Palombo, Justin (Kandace) Matheney, Kyle McCurry, and Jarred (Sara) Matheney, great-grandchild Maci Rae Matheney, sister Violet Jo (Melvin) Carr, and sisters-in-law Era Franks and Kathleen Wall. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 12, at DeKalb Memorial Gardens in Smithville with his immediate family in attendance. Fay Tucker officiated. Military grave rites were conducted by Marine Corps League Bobby Ray Detachment 1377. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Webb Cemetery @ Seven Springs Rd. c/o Teresa McCurry, 169 Breezy Lake Drive, McMinnville, TN 37110 or to the Banks Cemetery Fund c/o Melinda Davis, 3084 Banks Pisgah Road, Smithville, TN 37166.
