James E. Chandler, 82, St. Rt. 167, Denmark Twp., died Saturday afternoon at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
He was born Sept. 27, 1934 in Bone Cave, the son of Walter and Delma (White) Chandler and has resided in the Jefferson area since 1948, coming from Tennessee. Jim was married to Ethel M. Wilson on Nov. 21, 1953 in Pierpont. He was employed with Rockwell International for many years until 1987 when he began working for Chandler Tree Service, retiring in 2000.
Jim and Ethel have wintered in Mission, TX since 1997. He was an avid golfer and former member of the Jefferson Exchange Club and Little League coach.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel, a grandson, Brett A. (Adrienne) Chandler of Austin, Texas, two great-grandsons, Will and Draven Dubard, two brothers, C. Daniel Chandler of Ashtabula and Gary Chandler of Conneaut, sister Linda Meier of Thompson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Craig Chandler in 1999 and siblings, Lester and Carlton Chandler, Joyce Loomis and Shirley Loomis.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson Street, Jefferson, with Rev. Roger Loomis officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
