McMinnville resident and White County native James Allison Welch, 82, was born April 30, 1940 and died July 30 at The Webb House in McMinnville following an extended illness.  

A retired accountant and partner with Totherow, Haile and Welch CPAs, graduate of David Lipscomb University, charter member of McMinnville Breakfast Rotary Club and past-president of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association, he was the son of the late Ken and Beulah Erwin Welch. He was a veteran of the Tennessee Air National Guard where he served from 1963 until 1969 and was a member of Westwood Church of Christ where he served as an elder for 30 years and treasurer for over 40 years.

Mr. Welch was married Aug. 1, 1964 to Barbara Hickerson Welch of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Allison and Charles Nunley of Murfreesboro, and John and Dani Welch of Sparta, four grandchildren Erin Nunley and Morgan Nunley, both of Murfreesboro, and Evan Welch and Abigail Welch, both of Sparta, three sisters Carolyn Jones of Spring Hill, Pat and Dan Billingsley of Oneida, TN and Mary Beth and Don Swindell of Antioch, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at High’s Chapel. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at High’s.
