Jack Foster Melton, 93, a McMinnville resident and Rock Island native, died Sept. 27 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following an extended illness.
He was a self-employed appliance repairman, veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and son of the late George and Bertha Foster Melton. Mr. Melton was married to Taskah Madewell Melton, who preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1998. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son-in-law Frankie Morton; brother Buck Melton; and sister Margaret Newman.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Janie Morton Donalson and Toby Donalson of McMinnville; son Mike Melton of McMinnville; grandson Chris Morton and wife Christal of McMinnville; great-grandchild Tyler Morton of McMinnville; sister Frances Fults of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Philadelphia Cemetery with Ray Weddington to officiate. Military grave rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at High’s.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels.
