Homer Abb Hicks, 69

McMinnville resident and White County native Homer Abb Hicks, 69, was born Aug. 8, 1942 and died Jan. 15 at his daughter’s residence in Douglasville, Ga., following an extended illness. 
A retired maintenance supervisor with the city of Atlanta, Ga., a United States Army veteran of Korea, and member of McMinnville Independent Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Willie and Hannah Pearl Cutts Hicks. 
He was married to Martha Clydena Lathem Hicks, who preceded him in death Sept. 23, 2006. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Paisley Hicks; sisters, Edith Dyydal, Billie Simons, and Kathie Hicks, and brothers, Charles and William Hicks.
He is survived by four children, Robert Daniel Hicks and Edward Dwayne Hicks, both of McMinnville, Wanda (Freddie) Tippens of Douglasville, Ga., and Cindy Kropff of Alabama; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sister-in-law, Lee and Roger Hicks, and Bobby and Jewel Hicks, all of Georgia; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Webb of McMinnville, and Mary and James Norris, and Joyce and Lewis Vollrath, all of Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at McMinnville Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Haston and Dr. Garland Odom officiating. Burial will follow at Morrison Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. today at High’s.
High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
