Fairmount, Ga., resident and Grundy County native Heber Earl Bess, 94, was born Oct. 2, 1919 and died Jan. 14 at Calhoun Health Care Center in Calhoun, Ga., following a brief illness.Retired from the Southern Standard, he was the son of the late Venus and Lettie Mae Whitman Bess. He was married to Esther Lee Bouldin Bess, who preceded him in death April 25, 2005. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Billy G. and James Earl Bess; daughter, Theresa Bouldin; several brothers and sisters; and granddaughter, Margie L. Bess.He is survived by son, Larry Bess of Chatsworth, Ga.; six grandchildren, Mark Bess of Morrison, Leanne Bess and Missy Arnold, both of Viola, Russell Bess of Murfreesboro, and Cindy Bouldin and Nickie Anderson, both of McMinnville; five great-grandchildren, La Nae Bess and Hanna Bess, both of Morrison, Samantha Arnold of Viola, Blake Cope of McMinnville and Danielle Scott of the Centertown community; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Opal Bess of Oregon.Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in High’s Chapel with Judy Thompson officiating.
