Mr. Hargas Vernon Elkins, 69, of McMinnville died Tuesday, April 3, at his residence. He was born May 4, 1942, in Cannon County, was a retired heavy equipment diesel mechanic, and a member of Center Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by parents Issac Raymond and Virginia Eldora Mitchell Elkins, sisters Wanda Craddock and Gail Lawley, and brothers Gary, Lane, and Raymond Elkins Jr.Survivors include his wife of 34 years Phyllis Marie Melton Elkins, children Brandon Tyler Elkins, Debbie Hale, Mark A. Elkins, Vernon Elkins Jr., Helen Virginia Stewart, and Tucker Elkins, stepchildren Crystal Gillette, Sheila Fann, and Todd Bess, sisters Mallie Bryson, Shirley Bryson, and Lyla Dees, brother Al Elkins, grandchildren, and step-grandchildren Justin Bess, Hunter Bess, Lexi Fann, and Allison Bess.Funeral service is 1 p.m. Thursday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel.
