Furman Love Shields, 93, of McMinnville died Sunday, Sept. 23 at River Park Hospital.
He was born Dec. 1, 1918 in Smithville and was a former merchant with Locke’s Five & Ten and a member of Mt. Leo Church of Christ. Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his parents James K. and Nannie G. Cantrell Shields, daughter Linda Gail Shields, and brother Arthur W. Shields.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years Christine Blair Shields; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Kathy Shields and Wayne and Brenda Shields, all of McMinnville; grandchildren, Mary Beth Rogers Taylor, Angela Rogers, and Matthew Shields; great grandchildren Christian Rogers, Chole Rogers, and Amber Spurlock; and special neighbors, Thomas and Josephine Woods. Several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends also survive.
Funeral service is 1 p.m. today at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Lane Dix will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. The Shields family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels.
