McMinnville resident and Bledsoe County native Flora Rothwell Swafford, 99, was born Oct. 25, 1911 and died unexpectedly Sept. 9 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.A retired eighth-grade English teacher and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late George Walter and Ida Elnora Caldwell Rothwell. Mrs. Swafford received her B.S. degree from Tennessee Technological University.She was married to Thomas Aaron Swafford, who preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1998. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by son-in-law, Edwin Martin Blankenship.She is survived by one daughter, Bettye Blankenship of McMinnville; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Dr. Brad and Shann Blankenship of Murfreesboro; two great-grandsons, Matthew Blankenship and John Samuel Wright of Murfreesboro; great-granddaughter, Ashley Blankenship of Murfreesboro; and sister-in-law, Nora Lee Rothwell of Chattanooga.Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at High’s Chapel with Kevin Key and Garland Robinson officiating.
