Evelyn Lorene Mills Walker, 94, a Rock Island resident and Van Buren County native, was born June 9, 1923 and died May 23 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following a brief illness.

She was a homemaker, member of Mt. Leo Church of Christ, and daughter of the late Willie C. and Dovie Craig Mills. Mrs. Walker recently attended Campaign Church of Christ. She enjoyed traveling and crocheting and displayed her handiwork at local craft fairs for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband James B. Rutledge; second husband Lloyd B. Walker; stepson James Walker; and sister Lois Montandon.

Survivors include three children and spouses, Elnora and Miles Snider of Rock Island, Jimmie and Burnell Rogers of the Mt. Zion community, Joel Dawson and Raeann Rutledge of Cleveland; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three stepsons and spouses, Richard and Ann Walker of Beech Grove, Wayne and Ruth Walker and Kenneth and Lillian Walker, all of McMinnville; six step-grandchildren; uncle George Mills of Decatur, Ala.; and special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at High’s Chapel with Trent Key to officiate. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
