Ernest Haston Simpson, 87, of Tullahoma died Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Life Care Center in Tullahoma.
A native of Warren County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Edith Davenport Simpson. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran having proudly served his country for 27 years, and a retired post office employee. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, photography, traveling, and reading. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and serving in the kitchen at Grace Baptist Church, where he was a member. He was devoted to God, his country, and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bernard, Brown, James, and infant brother Waymon, and one great-granddaughter, Keplyn Williams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mrs. Pauline Simpson of Tullahoma; two sons, Ronald B. (Kristie) Simpson of Manchester and Ernest H. (Susan) Simpson Jr. of Ooltewah; five grandchildren Constance L. (Paul) Sussman of Murfreesboro, Olivia Simpson (Brendon) Williams of Hemingway, S.C., Jessi Lynn Simpson of Cartersville, Ga., Justin R. (Monica) Still of Manchester, and Kristen Elaine Gilmore of Ooltewah; five great-grandchildren, Zachary and Cera Still of Manchester, Gabriel and Hannah Sussman of Murfreesboro, and Landon Williams of Hemingway.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Tullahoma. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Bro. Tim McGeHee and Bro. Gary Irvin officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund, 1901 Ovoca Road, Tullahoma, TN, 37388.
