Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Clara Johannsen, 96, of McMinnville died Saturday, April 6, at St. Thomas River Park Hospital. 

She was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Gary, Ind., was a homemaker, a member of Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and served her country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mrs. Johannsen was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Clara Georgie Danyi, her husband Eldon Edward Johannsen, sister Margaret “Meg” Verplank and husband Grover, and sister-in-law Harriet Danyi.

Survivors include her sons Chris (Darlene) Johannsen and Greg (Donna) Johannsen of Knoxville, grandchildren Mat-thew (Jessica) Johannsen, Rebekah Johannsen and fiancé Dylan McPeak, Brian (Brooke) Johannsen, and Jeri (Jason) Carr, great-grandchildren Elizabeth Mae Johannsen, Alivia Grace Johannsen, Dalton Edward Johannsen, and Jack Allen Carr, and brother Joseph Danyi.

Funeral service was Tuesday, April 9, at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel with Matthew Johannsen officiating. Inter-ment followed at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Rev. Kerry Walker officiated at the cemetery and military grave rites will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. Online condolences may be made at www.mcminnvillefuneralhome.com.
