Dorothy M. Scott, 98, died Saturday, Jan. 23, at a Woodbury nursing home. She was born in Coalmont on Sept. 8, 1916 to Alec Levi Hammers and Suzie Meeks Hammers, who preceded her in death along with her brothers, Ben, Douglas, F.M., Alvin and Franklin Hammers; sisters, Georgia Sanders, Rose Keener, Agnes White, and Eva Earsy, husband Hubert Huey Scott Jr. She attended Little Creek Baptist Church.She is survived by her son, Hubert H. Scott Jr., of Flintstone, Ga.; daughters, Helen R. Cantrell of Woodbury, Evelyn M. Coppinger of Altamont and Betty C. Williamson of Rock Island; sisters, Myrtle Couey of Boaz, Ala., and Violet Lofty of Whitwell; brother, James Hammers of Knoxville; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.Funeral service was Monday in the funeral home chapel with minister Dal Barrett officiating with burial following at Fall Creek Cemetery. Layne Funeral Home of Altamont was in charge of arrangements.
