Rock Island resident and Van Buren County native David Lee “Bunton” Smith, 71, was born Oct. 10, 1941 and died March 15 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.A retired employee of Powermatic and member of Campaign Church of God, he was the son of the late Walter and Daisy Mae Taylor Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Smith and three sisters, Linda Dove, Joan Smith and Sandra Nannalene Owens.He was married Dec. 15, 1967 to Brenda Rollings Smith of Rock Island. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Teresa Smith of the Centertown community, and Frank and Lesa Smith of McMinnville; daughter and son-in-law, Kellie and Michael Boyd of Rock Island; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Olan and Treva Smith of Bone Cave, and Dewey and Donna Smith of McMinnville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Freda and Ricky Duggin, and Kathy and Dean King, all of Rock Island, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in High’s Chapel with Jeff Kesley officiating.
