McMinnville resident and Huntsville, Ala., native Corrina East Flanders died Thursday, April 19, at Raintree Manor from natural causes. She was 96 years old. She left this world a true believer in her Christian faith.
Corrina was born March 4, 1922 in the Boogertown section of Huntsville to Joseph and Allie Mathis East (both deceased). She moved to McMinnville at age 17 where she met and married William Hamp Flanders (deceased), the father of her four children. She later married Gentry Allen Gay (deceased). In addition, she was preceded in death by two sisters Lynn Hosto and Eva Hall; five brothers James, infant Charles, Joe David, Chilon (Shot) and Namon (Bill) East; and, one granddaughter Trina Bain.
Corrina is survived by children and spouses Frances and Joe Bain of Warren County, Bill and Nancy Flanders, Charlene and Ron White of Murfreesboro, Bob and Gail Flanders of McMinnville, granddaughter and caregiver Dee Callis of Portland, sisters Ruth Lowery of McMinnville, Linda and Ted Jenkins of Memphis, five brothers Clinnon and Elna, Phillip and Patty, David and Connie, and Randall East, all of Alabama; Raleigh and Karen East of Taft. Corrina is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation and respects for this life well lived on her own terms will be at McMinnville Funeral Home on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. Brent Bain will officiate. Interment will follow at DeKalb Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Corrina’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
