McMinnville resident and Rutherford County native Amanda Mechelle Jakes Burks, 33, was born May 23, 1981 and won her victory over cancer Jan. 21.A kindergarten teacher at F.C. Boyd Sr. Christian School and a member of Westwood Church of Christ, she was the daughter of Alan and Debbie Jakes of McMinnville. She was married Dec. 26, 2003 to Chad Leon Burks of McMinnville.In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by two children, Thomas and Kayeden Burks, both of McMinnville; brother Alan Jakes Jr. of Morrison; sister and brother-in-law Alison and Chris Hicks of Cookeville; sister-in-law Jackie Jakes of McMinnville; cousin Amber Coleman of Murfreesboro; maternal grandmother Patricia Burks and husband Leon of Manchester; paternal grandfather Willie Jakes Jr. of Murfreesboro; nieces and nephews Austin and Tyler Jakes, and Walden and Ella Hicks; and sister-in-law Amy Burks of Readyville. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westwood Church of Christ with Coy Hathcock officiating.
