McMinnville resident and Warren County native A.J. “Hootie” Smith, 90, was born April 19, 1927 and died April 25 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness.Retired from Genesco, a United States Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lela Gay Shockley Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Gordon Smith; and two sisters Josephine Bell and Mattie Smith.He was married to Clemma Grace “Sugar Lou” Smith of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children and spouses, Rudy J. and Linda Smith of Rock Island and Renaa and Lynn King of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Rudy A. Smith of Hermitage, Kyle King of Nashville, Shawnda and Lynn Curtis of Curtistown, and Kerry King of McMinnville; three great-grandchildren, Cheslee Curtis, Eli King and Ashtyn Curtis; step-great-grandchild, Dustin Curtis and wife Amanda; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
