Youngsters entering first through twelfth grades have the opportunity to participate in the Missoula Children’s Theatre residency program which will result in a full-scale musical presentation. “The Wiz of the West” is the production chosen for the young actors’ participation.
The summer performance opportunity is organized by the city of McMinnville and the Park Theater. Auditions will take place on Monday, July 13 from 10 a.m. until noon. Rehearsals will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., while the big performances are set for July 18 at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The MCT’s mission is to develop lifeskills in children through participation in the performing arts. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics attained through this project.
Park Theater coordinator Sara Morgan said, “I can tell you we will be hosting two actors/directors for the week, and they bring all the scripts, sets, costumes and makeup to be able to put on a full size musical in one week.”
Spots are limited, and there is a $65 participation fee per child payable via cash or check payable to the city of McMinnville.
Register at the McMinnville Civic Center before July 1 to participate in this program.
The Missoula, Mont. based organization is the brainchild of Jim Caron and Don Collins in the early 1970s.
The magnificent home facility, Missoula Community Theatre opened in 1998, and continues to change the lives of thousands of young people by carrying out their mission.
