Tennessee Aquarium offers variety of holiday events

Several fun events are planned at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater and River Gorge Explorer in Chattanooga.
Celebrate Chattanooga’s 175th Birthday on the River Gorge Explorer for a trip back in time to explore the city’s rich history. The cruise will be Nov. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Chattanooga Pier. Experience a special tour upstream learning about the fascinating timelines of the seven historic bridges. Discover Chattanooga’s river heritage from the founding of Ross’s Landing to the construction of the Chickamauga Dam. Look for wildlife and the last of the beautiful fall color while we explore this passageway through history. Holidays Under
the Peaks

Relax and enjoy the holiday season surrounded by some of nature’s most fascinating creatures at the Tennessee Aquarium at their Holidays Under the Peaks. Activities start Nov. 21 and run through Jan. 4. Guests of all ages will be delighted by new Extraordinary Experiences offered throughout both Aquarium buildings. The Polar Express 3D
Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of The Polar Express 3D at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater from Nov. 28 through Dec. 24 with a variety of show times. Experiencing this holiday tale on the giant six-story screen has become a family tradition for many. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks upon a journey of self-discovery showing him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. Audiences are drawn into this immersive film, grasping at falling snowflakes, ducking as the train screeches into their lap and feeling the howl of the steam whistle in surround sound. Caroling with
the Fishes

The Tennessee Aquarium’s River Journey galleries will be filled with the sounds of the season – including flutes, strings, voices and Dan Landrum on the hammered dulcimer at the aquarium’s Caroling with the Fishes on Dec. 7 from 6:30 – 9 p.m.  Meet Santa and take your picture with the jolly old elf and enjoy some holiday treats. Wrap up your holiday gift purchases early this year by shopping the Aquarium’s gift shop. Gift boxes and shipping options will be available. Then wrap up an evening of good cheer with traditional family caroling with the Metro Musicians.

Festive Wreath
Workshop

Get ready for the holidays by creating your own festive wreath using a variety of evergreens, berries and bows at the Festive Wreath Workshop on Dec. 14. Enjoy music and spiced cider, as Christine Bock, the Aquarium’s lead horticulturist, shares her fabulous natural holiday decorating ideas. Price includes fresh greenery, artificial berries and bows. We encourage everyone to bring garden clippers and a glue gun if possible. (Also bring any special bows or decorations you’d like to add to your wreath.)

PJs and The Polar Express 3D!
All aboard the Polar Express for an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole on Dec. 19. Begin winter break in a leisurely style. Winter Wildlife Cruise, “Eagle Eyes”
Late December is prime time to watch for the arrival of wintering bald eagles in our area on the Winter Wildlife Cruise, “Eagle Eyes” on Dec. 28. Viewing is best on the water from the vantage of the observation deck aboard the Tennessee Aquarium River Gorge Explorer. Bring your binoculars and dress appropriately for an eye-full of our national symbol. Along the way, an Aquarium naturalist will discuss the wild and tumultuous history of this spectacular bird of prey – from its days on the endangered species list to its current protected status.
