Paddlefest to make splash Saturday

If fundraising floats your boat and you love kayaking, the ninth annual Kids of the Community Paddlefest on June 18 is the activity for you.

Paddlefest is a big fundraiser for Kids of the Community and helps the organization continue to operate and help children.

Paddlefest will be June 18 and it is a 13K kayak race and leisure float that helps fund Kids of the Community. Registration will start at 9 a.m. and the race begins and Pepper Branch Park at 10 a.m. and the finish line is located at Wild Bill’s BBQ. The start time for those floating is 10:30 a.m.

The cost to enter is $25. Participants are asked to bring their own kayaks, but rental options at Smooth Rapids will also be available. Organizer Pam Pescevic usually races, but is still deciding if she is going to race or float since one of the children specifically asked her to float with him.

“I am not 100% sure if I am personally going to race, but we are definitely going to have racers in the water. Personally one of the Kids of the Community boys has asked me to float with him rather than race this year so I am still debating on that,” said Pescevic. A $10 donation will also enter participants in a drawing for prizes. Two new Jackson Kayaks, an $800 fishing package, and at least $1,000 worth of gift certificates donated by local businesses will be given away. Participants can enter as many times as they want. Paying $50 will give you five chances of winning a price.

All proceeds will go to the Kids of the Community and help the nonprofit continue to operate. Kids of the Community is an entirely volunteer nonprofit that provides year-round programs for children.

Paddlefest is a big fundraiser typically raising between $10,000 and $12,000. Pescevic is hoping for a good turnout and for everyone to enjoy the day.

“We hope everyone will come out and have a really good time that day. We are just looking forward to getting on the river and enjoying the river and supporting our kids along the way,” said Pescevic.

Registration can be done online at up until Monday, June 13. Registration is also accepted the day of the event.

Kids of the Community invites any local business or anyone wishing to donate prizes for the race winners in each categories to call Pam Pescevic at (928) 713-5014 and it will be appreciated.
