A festive pageant brought brightly colored dresses and sparkling crowns to Three Star Mall on Saturday.

The 2020 Miss Pioneer Christmas Time pageant was organized by Emily Pennington in collaboration with Three Star Mall. Across five categories, 20 girls from 4-21 years old vied for the titles of Tiny Miss, Little Miss, Pre-Teen, Teen and Miss Pioneer Christmas Time.

Admission costs and the People’s Choice monetary donations went to support a program by the name of Embracing the Elderly which works to assist the overwhelming amount of orphaned elderly, or nursing home residents with no immediate family who are in nursing homes. The program collects items such as basic toiletries which are then given to residents who lack a family or support system that would ordinarily provide those things.

When all was said and done and the dust had settled, the event drew over $1,000 to benefit Embracing the Elderly.

“With 20 contestants, a team of helpers, and wonderful audience members, we were able to clear over $1,000 through Miss Pioneer Christmas Time,” said Pennington in a Facebook post. “My heart is so full and I cannot wait to be able to give back to all my nursing homes, especially during this hard season.”
