The school year just ended, but many schools are already planning ahead to prevent the summer slide, a term used to describe the academic regression experienced by students over the summer.
Several local schools are planning to open their library for visitors during summer vacation, with some opening as early as next week.
Some schools have even planned themes, activities and contests to motivate students to read. They are invited to check out books, earn AR points, and participate in other fun activities. For more information on your child’s school library accessibility, read the list of dates and times below.
Bobby Ray Elementary’s library will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. on the following Mondays:
June 3 – Summer Luau theme
June 17 – Down on the Farm theme
July 8 – Sports Night theme
July 22 – Calling All Superheroes theme
Centertown Elementary’s library will be open Mondays from 5 to 7 p.m. on the following days:
June 10, 24, July 8, 22
Dibrell Elementary’s library will be open Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. on the following days:
June 12, 19, 26, July 10, 17, 24
Eastside Elementary’s library will be open on the following Tuesdays:
June 11 from 9 to 11 a.m.
June 18 from 5 to 7 p.m.
June 25 from 9 to 11 a.m.
July 9 from 5 to 7 p.m.
July 16 from 9 to 11 a.m., and again from 5 to 7 p.m.
Hickory Creek's library will be open Thursdays from 9 a.m. until noon on the following days:

Irving College’s library will be open from 3 until 6 p.m. on the following days:

Tuesdays - June 11, 18, 25 and July 2, 9 and 16
Wednesdays - July 24 and 31
West Elementary’s library will be open Mondays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on the following days:
June 3, 10, 24, July 15, 22
Warren County Middle School’s library will be open Mondays from 3:30 to 7 p.m. on the following days:
