Warden Hulan George and Arlene Denton George will celebrate 70 years together on Dec. 31 with a quite family gathering at their Centertown community home.
The young couple were introduced by a family member when she lived in Sparta and he in Warren County. The two found they had much in common and decided to travel to Rossville, Ga. to be married on Dec. 31, 1945.
Soon after their wedding, he was drafted into the Army Air Force during WWII. After living in several locations around the United States, they settled in Warren County to make their home.
They were both very active in the Centertown CIC, with him serving as president. He also helped start the Centertown Volunteer Fire Department, and assisted in securing city water to the community. He was a member of the inaugural E-911 board.
Mr. George retired from Sears with over 35 years of service, and his wife worked at the McMinnville Garment Factory and Genesco, and later ran The Lunch Basket. They are both faithful members of the Centertown Church of Christ where they have worshipped for over 50 years, and he is an elder with the congregation.
The couple have been blessed with children, Jeanette and the late Dannye George, Janice and Tylee Marcum, Gary and Debbie George, Alan and Julie George, Connie and Tony King and Bobby George. They have eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
