Mothers and sons can put on their cowboy boots to do a little boot scootin’ boogie during the first Mother and Son Square Dance.
Covenant Academy will be holding a Mother and Son Square Dance this coming Saturday, Nov. 9, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the school. The dance is for male students over the age of 6 and their mothers.
“We decided to do a mother and son event since we’ve never done one before,” says Covenant Academy fundraising and event coordinator Tina Lassiter. “Doing things for mothers and sons is important because they have an awesome connection and sometimes we don’t have enough events to honor that.”
The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with photos and will be followed by a dinner catered by Prater’s BBQ at 5:30 p.m.
A square dance caller, who will teach and announce the instructions of the steps, will lead the square and line dancing from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
No prior dance experience is necessary. If there is more than one son, and there aren’t enough partners, such as grandparents, aunts or other family members, for each child, event planners are organizing female students to be available to dance and even the number of square partners for each person.
“It’ll be a good time to connect with each other as well as with friends,” says Lassiter.
The school is requesting the names and ages of each attendee upon ticket purchase.
If interested in coming, but not dancing, that information must also be provided in order to better organize equal partnerships.
Tickets are $20 per person and must be purchased in advance by Monday, Nov. 4.
These are available in the office at Covenant Academy or online for a small additional fee at https://www.eventbrite.com/o/covenant-academy-17418162581.
