Boyd announced its top two students and named its Mr. and Miss Boyd Christian School on Friday. Erin Cantrell, right, is valedictorian for the class of 2017 and Miss Boyd Christian. Rhiannon Hoover, left, is class salutatorian, while Tyler Beaty is Mr. Boyd Christian.

Erin Cantrell has found the right medicine to excel at Boyd Christian School.
A member of the Lady Bronco basketball team, Erin has been involved with the Boyd student council, the National Honor Society, and the Spirit, Beta and Interact clubs.
On Friday, Erin was announced as the valedictorian of Boyd’s class of 2017, showing she finds time to excel in the classroom in addition to her other activities.
“I plan to attend Freed-Hardeman University and major in nursing,” said Erin, who already has a jump start on her college career. Through the dual enrollment program offered at Motlow, she will have already completed her first year of college by the time she graduates from high school.
“I will have 35 of the 60 hours I need to graduate so I’ll be classified as a sophomore,” said Erin.
An art appreciation course at Motlow is the only thing keeping Erin from graduating from high school with all A’s. She made a B in the art class.
Rhiannon Hoover finishes just behind Erin and has been announced as Boyd’s salutatorian. Boyd’s class of 2017 is expected to have 16 graduates.
Rhiannon participated in many of the same activities as Erin and was especially skillful on the basketball court where she scored more than 1,000 career points. A sharp-shooting guard, Rhiannon was named team captain and also made the all-conference team.
“Being around my teammates was my favorite part of playing,” said Rhiannon, who has attended Boyd all 13 years of her school career.
Her future plans include attending Columbia State Community College where she wants to major in nursing.
In addition to being named valedictorian, Erin was named Miss Boyd Christian. Joining her in that honor as Mr. Boyd Christian is Tyler Beaty.
Asked how he earned the distinction Tyler said, “I guess people like me. I come to class and I play basketball. I enjoy it here.”
Tyler is one of the dynamic players on Boyd’s basketball team and he says his future plans include playing basketball in college. He’s been at Boyd for three years.
