A fun afternoon was had with lots of grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters, and maybe a few fairies, at the Bonnie Blue Inn Grandmother’s Tea Party.
The annual tea party featured a Fairy Garden theme, with decorations and food depicting the day. The menu of tasty delights provided by innkeeper Rebecca Merritt included Fairy Wing Cupcakes, Toadstool Cookies, Fairy Fruit Wants, Fairy Garden Vegetable Dip with Pita Chips, Chicken Salad and PB&J sandwiches.
“This year we had several grandmother, daughter and granddaughter groups,” said Merritt. “I guess the daughters didn’t want to get left out this year.”
A fun beginning to the Grandmother’s Tea was the grandmothers introducing themselves and grandchildren, and sharing the story of what they are lovingly called by their grandchildren.
“It doesn’t matter what you want them to call you, sometimes, they come up with their own special name,” said grandmother Mary Rourse. “But whatever they choose, it’s wonderful to hear.”
This year’s project for attendees was to make their own fairy garden. According to Merritt they learned all about fairies and where they live.
“We learned fairies live under toadstools and at the bottom of gardens,” said Merritt. “So each group created a fairy garden in hopes that a fairy might come live in it.”
The Bonnie Blue Inn plans the Grandmother’s Tea Party each year, with other tea parties throughout the year.
The next tea party will be held in June with the 100 Acre Wood theme being utilized.
The inn is located at 2317 Old Smithville Road and can be reached at 931-815-3838. The tea room and gift shop is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. They are also available for private functions.
